Accredited ABA Courses

The Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board (QABA®) and the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) are two global agencies based in the US offering ABA certification. However, from January the 1st 2023, BACB will only offer individuals who reside in the US, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom BACB® certification. With this in mind, if you reside outside these countries you should consider opting for a QABA® accredited course.

For the purpose of this course guide we are going to focus on accredited QABA® courses.

The Qualified Applied Behaviour Analysis Credentialing Board (QABA®) is an internationally-accredited credentialing agency dedicated to ensuring the highest standard of care among professionals providing applied behavioural analysis (ABA) services for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities.

If your highest level of education is a high school diploma (or national equivalent), you meet the education requirement for our Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT) course.

 - BACB Credential Level: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

The ABAT course is an entry level course which takes a minimum of 40 hours to complete. This course will provide you with a fundamental understanding of autism, principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), commonly used intervention strategies and ethics in the field.

"The ABAT is an entry-level interventionist who typically serve as direct to one-to-one instructors."

Once meeting all QABA® requirements for this credential, typical ABAT roles in the human services field include entry-level Behaviour and Early Intervention Therapists. The ABAT course is also a great learning opportunity for parents and caregivers of children with ASD.

If your highest level of education is a bachelor's degree in a related field, you meet the education requirement for our Qualified Autism Services Practitioner-Supervisor (QASP-S) course (in addition to the ABAT course).

- BACB Credential Level: Board Certified assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA).

The QASP-S course takes a minimum of 188 hours to complete. This course will provide you with a deeper understanding of autism, principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), commonly used intervention strategies and ethics in the field.

"The QASP-S is a mid-tier interventionist who serves as an experienced instructor and may also provide training to staff/families, monitor the progress of goals and objectives, and provide supervision to entry-level staff."

Once meeting all QABA® requirements for this credential, typical QASP-S roles in the human services field include Program Implementation with some Supervisory Responsibilities. 

If your highest level of education is a Master's Degree in a related field, you meet the education requirement for our Qualified Behaviour Analyst (QBA) course (in addition to the ABAT and QASP-S courses).

- BACB Credential Level: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

The QBA course takes a minimum of 270 hours to complete. This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the core knowledge of autism, principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), behaviour assessments, teaching strategies, professional supervision and ethics in the field.

"The QBA is a master’s level behaviour analyst providing program oversight, supervision, assessment, analysis of data, goal development, and other aspects of treatment and ethical integrity."

Once meeting all QABA® requirements for this credential, typical QBA roles in the human services field include Program Developer and Program Implementation Supervisor. 

Completing your ASBA coursework is an important step towards earning your QABA® Board credential. Upon successful completion, you'll receive a certificate that serves as one of the requirements for the credentialing process.

You will also need to complete a certain number of supervised fieldwork experience hours before gaining your credential.The required number of supervised fieldwork hours differs depending on the path you choose, as you can find by clicking on the links below.
