International Behaviour Analyst (IBA) Course

IBA301 - Core Principles of ABA

This unit introduces fundamental components involved in the scientific discipline of behaviour analysis, with a focus on basic concepts to distinguish between respondent and operant behaviour, and how basic environmental conditioning processes influence each type of behaviour.

Students will gain an in depth understanding of core concepts and principles of behaviour analysis, including reinforcement, punishment, extinction, motivation operation, stimulus control, and stimulus equivalence.

IBA302 – Recording and Measuring Behaviour

This unit provides an overview of behaviour measurement, various behaviour assessment methods, and how to improve quality of behaviour measurement.

Students will learn to use behaviour measurement methods to inform the selection of treatment goals, and to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Students will also learn to construct and analyse graphic displays of data.

IBA303 – Single-Case Designs

This unit focuses on single-case designs, which are a powerful tool used in ABA to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions on an individual level.

Students will learn different types of single-case experimental designs, such as reversal design, multi-element/alternating treatments, multiple baseline, changing criterion, and elements of experimental designs, such as dependent variable, independent variable, baseline, treatment phase, and phase line.

IBA304 – Behaviour Assessment

This unit emphasises on how to conduct a comprehensive, function-based approach (i.e., Functional Behaviour Assessments) to identify functions of behaviours of concern.

Students will learn to conduct Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA), including design and analyse indirect assessments, descriptive assessments, and functional analyses.

IBA305 - Behavioural Interventions

This unit links core principles of ABA to increase behaviours that are socially valid and decrease behaviours of concern. Focuses on commonly used behavioural interventions to increase socially valid behaviours, such as shaping, chaining, differential reinforcement. On the topic of decreasing behaviours of concern, explore noncontingent reinforcement, punishment, and extinction procedure, as well as ethical considerations when implementing behaviour reduction procedures.

Students will learn to link core principles of ABA to various teaching protocols and programming, and gain working knowledge to use behaviour techniques to meet learner goals. In addition, learn to integrate assessment information with client goals, preferences, risks, and environmental constraints.

IBA306 - Teaching Methods and Variations

This unit explores the use of evidence-based behaviour techniques, such as discrete trial teaching (DTT), chaining, natural environment teaching (NET), and prompting. Focuses on when and how to use data to inform teaching decisions (e.g., promoting maintenance and generalization of skills), with an emphasis on social inclusion of learners.

Students will learn to implement various teaching protocols, and gain working knowledge to use behaviour techniques to meet learner goals.

IBA307 - Ethics

This unit introduces legal, ethical, and professional considerations within the context of ABA, with a focus on IBAO Ethical Guidelines and IBAO Ethical Problem-Solving Model.

Students will gain an overview of relevant legislations, and learn to engage in ethical decision-making within the context of evidence-based practice. Students will also learn to identify contextual and cultural factors that may influence ethical behaviour.
